I have no idea why, I found an inexplicable answer online. Let me know if you find out. Once enabled, the old drive mounted perfectly and I proceeded to upgrade to Intrepid Ibex.
The Unhardy Heron
This is a quick note for anyone else using Ubuntu who upgrades to a new computer and uses their old drives. I have a dual boot and Windows Vista worked fine...well, as fine as Vista x64 can work, but Hardy Heron Ubuntu wouldn't even recognize the drive. While it told me that it couldn't find the UUID of the hard disk which was true, the problem is that the SATA mode needed to be set to AHCI rather than IDE.
