Oklahoma is leading the charge to...well...who knows...
The Oklahoma Senate on Monday unanimously approved a controversial bill that would make it a crime to sell violent video games to children under 18...
I really don't know why the government feels the need to hop in here and help parents parent. I think that senators should use their own children as prime examples of how to raise children correctly so that we can evaluate how good of a job they do before they force their constituents to do the same. Presumably they have a good reason:
HB3004, by Senate Republican leader Glenn Coffee, adds violent video games to a list of products--including outdoor advertisements for sexually explicit businesses--described in Oklahoma state law as harmful to minors. Coffee said studies have shown that violent games can make kids more aggressive.
Might I add that studies also show that TV, spankings, nutrition, ADHD, being male also make kids more aggressive. Not to mention that possibly sports like say football, basketball, wrestling might increase aggression given that games as innocuous as chess does.
